Baby Shower Centerpiece – Diaper Cake
My daughter and I threw a baby shower for my son and his girlfriend recently. We decided not to get too elaborate with decorations, we wanted to keep it simple. It turned out to be a very nice afternoon with family and friends and the soon to be parents got a lot of new stuff for baby Jax.
The main decoration was the diaper cake pictured above. In the planning stages of the shower, I was searching online and found the diaper cake idea. I had heard of them before but hadn’t thought about one for our shower until I watched this video:
I also found the step by step directions at Creative Baby Shower Ideas. Making the diaper cake really was very easy. I pretty much followed the directions on the site.
I used a box of 84 pampers size 2 diapers and did not used them all. ( I counted them, but I forgot now! ) I made the base by cutting a circle out of cardboard and wrapping it with gift wrap paper.
I did not use double stick tape to secure the ribbon around the layers because mine did not hold well and the ribbon looked saggy. So I cut a long enough ribbon to tie in a knot around each layer. Tying the ribbon tight really made the cake look better and the knots were in the back so it really didn’t matter.
I picked up a few small baby items that I fastened to each layer with thin ribbon to match. I love those little sneakers! : ) I topped the cake off with a cute little teddy bear to hide the bottle top in the center.
Like I said, making a diaper cake is real simple. The most time consuming part was rolling the diapers. Everyone loved it!
