House Warming Gift Idea: A Bamboo Plant
We were invited to a housewarming party this past weekend. I hadn’t really thought of a gift yet when my Mom, Daughter, Sister-in-law and I went to the farmer’s market in Des Moines a couple of weeks ago.
Strolling through the vendor booths, we came upon a man selling bamboo plants. My Sister-in-law mentioned that bamboo was supposed to be lucky and that she wished that she would have bought a bamboo plant for the housewarming party (she was invited too). She had already bought her gift, so I asked her if she would mind if I used her idea to give a bamboo plant as a gift! LUCKY for me she didn’t mind.
My daughter had given me a bamboo plant some time ago and I killed it. I didn’t know how I was supposed to take care of it. So I thought that I would give our housewarming hosts an advantage with the bamboo plant that I bought for them.
I did a search online about caring for bamboo plants. Then I printed a little card with care instructions for bamboo plants, added bamboo clip art and drew some green grass along the bottom. Very easy and now they will know exactly how to care for their new bamboo plant! Now that I know how to care for one, maybe I will get another one.
I also made a set of coasters to give along with the bamboo gift. I found the idea and instructions for the coasters in my new book, “Sew Darn Cute”. ( I love that book! ) They were super simple and quick to make. The backs are made out of old jeans. I made a set for myself too! : )
These housewarming gifts were a hit with the couple, they had been wanting to get a bamboo plant! And who can’t use a set of coasters?!
What are your ideas for housewarming gifts? I would love to hear them so feel free to post them in the comments below!

Those coasters are too cute Mom! I can’t wait to see what you make me when I get a new place
