How To Make A Felted Wool Heart Headband

This felted sweater project is fast and so easy to make. A perfect gift for a little girl on Valentine’s day. The simple-ness of this felted wool headband is what makes it so beautiful!

If you have never felted a wool sweater before it is super easy! You may have some wool sweaters that you no longer need or they can easily be found in thrift shops. Just make sure that they are 100% wool.

Wash them in HOT water with a cold rinse and dry in the dryer. You can repeat this process as needed, until you no longer can see any stitches in the sweater.

Supplies you will need to make a felted wool heart headband:

Felted wool sweater or sweaters
metal-less hair band
scissors
embroidery floss
embroidery needle
sewing machine ( if you don’t have one, you can sew by hand)
sewing needle and thread to match wool heart

Step 1

Cut a strip of felted wool from your sweater, the width and length are entirely up to you. The metal-less hair band will give you about 3 inches of stretch. Unless you have felted a huge sweater, you might only be able to make this for a child unless you sew some strips together for a larger size. Next you need to cut out a heart from your wool, again size is up to you.

Step 2

Choose your color of embroidery thread. Using 3 strands, slip stitch around your heart and down each side of your wool strip. Remember, being perfect or precise is not the point with this headband! (Tip: after you separate your embroidery thread, run it under a hot iron to straighten it out. This helps to minimize tangling while stitching)

Step 3

Using thread and needle to match, sew your heart on the headband in the desired location.

Step 4

Fold one end of your headband strip over the metal-less hair band and sew in place. Do the same for the other end, making sure that your headband is not twisted.
