“Sew Darn Cute” Book Review

July 31st, 2009

I recently purchased the book Sew Darn Cute: 30 Sweet & Simple Projects to Sew & Embellish by Jenny Ryan.

When my daughter and I picked this book up and browsed through it, we couldn’t help but say, “That is so darn cute!”

Like the title says there are 30 projects with instructions and patterns in Jenny’s book. The photographs are beautiful. Projects range from easy to medium difficulty.

The book starts out with a section titled “Tools & Techniques” where basic sewing tools and notions are discussed as well as sewing and embellishing basics. The book then moves on to the five chapters of projects.

“Pretties” includes instructions for making and embellishing clothing and accessories. “Totables” is all about things to carry stuff in! “Nest” is devoted to items to make for the home. The “Kidstuff” chapter has six darling projects to make for the babies and toddlers in your life. And the final chapter is “Crafties” with several projects for keeping and organizing your craft supplies.

Templates are included in the back of the book for each project that needs a pattern. Not all of them do. Following the template section is a Resource page listing places to purchase fabrics, charms/trims, notions and tools, and patterns as well as some links for inspiration and tutorials.

Personally I love the book and the projects. I made the recycled coasters and I will write about them in another post. The projects are all “sew” cute and items that you or someone will use and treasure. Everything in this book would make a great gift. I’m thinking Christmas! : )

If you are an advanced seamstress this book may seem too basic but other than that I give it a 5 star rating! Besides every project in this book is “Sew Darn Cute”!

If you have this book, I’d love for you to share your comments about it and tell us where we can see your projects from the book.
