Felted Wool Mittens

My daughter received a pair of handmade wool felted mittens from her boyfriend’s mother for Christmas this year. I fell in love with them when she showed them to me!
Those mittens inspired me to make a pair for myself. I already had a KWIK SEW pattern for mittens. I went shopping at Goodwill and found a wool sweater that I liked. After a few hot washes and a couple of spins in the dryer to shrink the wool these mittens are what I came up with.
I stitched the pieces together on my sewing machine( I sewed the mittens up with the seams on the outside). The mittens are very thick so sewing them was a bit tricky. (Oh… it’s times like this that I wish that I had a heavy industrial sewing machine!) After the seams were all sewn up I slip stitched around each seam.
They were so quick and easy to make. Next pair that I make, I will be more patient while putting them together. I was just too excited to get them done.
I love the primitive look and they are SOOOOO WARM….
I have been dreaming up more ideas of things I could do with felted wool!
